Second Life

What is Second Life? At first i thought it would be something serious to do strictly with school work, or maybe a Second Life in heaven perhaps?

Apparently, to my amazement, it's an online MMO/game/3-D virtual world which was launched in 2003 by Linden Research, Inc. This 3-D virtual world is entirely created by its Residents. This means what you see and experience in this game (good or bad) is entirely up to the people who play it.

Basically you enter this virtual world with endless possibilities. The possibilities to meet people, explore what others have already created, and then create your own. You can create almost anything you can imagine with highly flexible building tools, using geometric primitives and a simple, intuitive interface. You can also create your own house, skyscrapers, workplace, make "new friends", enjoy various entertainment, and even be part of the economy of Second Life! Be it shops and services, stocks, real estate, or taxes, you can play a part in how this "society" functions.

However, apparently the Land the u buy and build on in Second Life has to be bought with real cash and the Land pricing and use fees are listed in the website http://secondlife.com/whatis/landpricing.php. I guess thats where the game earns money from, besides the premium subcriptions and the Linden Dollar (L$), currency that is used in game, which can be bought and sold by real cash.

I would think this game has its pros and cons but it seems that whoever who controls and market controls the game and if you are good at reading the statistics and have the money to play with, this is the game for you! (Because you actually can get real cash out of playing this game) It definately stimulates the mind and tests your skills when you want to "be on top of the food chain". I can also see people who just get into Second Life to meet other people and have fun.
However, i feel that if you are just a casual player, its not really worth it/(i dont see the point of it) since you have to use real currency to buy land and in game currency, unless its just "socializing". But whatever it is, this is definately not my type of game. =)
